Flanagan to join Woodlawn coaching staff

WOODLAWN –The Woodlawn Cardinals boys basketball team will be getting a hall of fame addition to the bench next season.

At Thursday night’s school board meeting, Rob Flanagan was hired as a volunteer assistant. Woodlawn’s head coach Luke Cooper is Flanagan’s nephew.

Flanagan has 598 career wins in 35 years as a head coach at Cisne, Carterville, and Olney. He won 477 games over 27 seasons at Olney, where he is retiring as a teacher.
The Cardinals finished 19-13 last season with a roster that had three upper classmen—a senior and two juniors.
