JOHNSTON CITY — It took a while for the top seed in the southern 2A bracket to get rolling, but once the Johnston City Indians found their stride, they rolled past 16th seeded Red Bud 46-13.
The Musketeers controlled play much of the first quarter but had nothing to show for it, thanks to two interceptions by Johnston City senior Nolan Causey.
The Indians got touchdowns from Hayden Burton, Jace Weaver, and Kaden Koenig in the second quarter and tacked on two-point conversions for all three to lead 24-0 at the half before cruising to the 33-point win.
Johnston City (9-1) will be back at Ralph Davison Field Saturday for round two as the Indians will host the 8 seed, Warrensburg-Latham at 5:00. The Cardinals are 8-2 after beating Carmi-White County 35-30 in the opening round.
The Musketeers finish 6-4.
