Survive and advance: Goreville rallies to beat Cairo to win Cobden Regional

COBDEN — Abby Compton scored 30 points, and Kyndall Webb added 19 as the Goreville Lady Blackcats rallied to overcome upset-minded Cairo 70-58 to win the Cobden 1A Regional championship.

The Lady Pilots put on quite a long-distance shooting display in the first half, leading by as many as eight before taking a 33-28 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Goreville took the lead for good late in the third and led 47-42 after three before gradually pulling away in the fourth.

Trinty Posey led the Lady Pilots with 16 points. Aaliyah Wilkerson added 14, with Shanti Taylor and Sa’Layah Purdiman tallying 11 each.

Ariana Elms added 10 for the Lady Blackcats, who advance to the Elverado Sectional, where they will face Marissa/Coulterville in the second semifinal Tuesday night at 7:30. Edwards County will meet Pope County in the first semi at 5:30.
