Marion holds off Carbondale to win South 7 opener

CARBONDALE — The Marion Wildcats used a balanced attack to go on the road and win their South Seven opener, beating Carbondale 56-53.

Kaden Rogowski led the Wildcats with 19 points. Ethan Simmons added 15 and Phoenix Hatchett 13 as Marion improved to 5-1 (1-0) on the season.

The Terriers led 14-12 after one. The game was tied 24-24 at the half. Carbondale led 43-42 after three with the Wildcats outscoring the Terriers 14-10 in the fourth for the win.

DeCarl Payne led four Terriers in double figures with 18. Freshman Jerrance Howard tallied 11 with Jaxon Marlowe-Evans and Tennell Greene each scoring 10 as Carbondale fell to 4-3 (1-1).
