DU QUOIN — Murphysboro, Herrin, and Chester all picked up wins on the final night of pool play at the 26th Du Quoin Tip-Off Classic, with the Red Devils and Tigers earning a spot in Saturday’s championship game.
Murphysboro used a 19-2 run to close the third quarter to overcome a sluggish start and beat Cairo 67-40. AJ Boese led the Red Devils with 16 points.
Herrin built a 16-point first half lead and then had to hang on in the fourth quarter to beat Carmi-White County 60-55. Tigers’ junior Kyrese Lukens led all scorers with a career high 35. Gavin Holloman led the Bulldogs with 17, all coming in the second half.
Chester closed out the day beating the host Indians 58-48 setting up Saturday’s trophy games:
7th Place: Cairo vs Sesser-Valier
5th Place: Du Quoin vs Sparta
3rd Place: Carmi-White Co. vs Chester
