Hargrove’s 37 leads Lady Bearcats to win–Cairo, Salem, and Pinckneyville also open with wins at Du Quoin

DU QUOIN — Fresh off signing with Nebraska last week, Amiah Hargrove showed why she’ll be headed to the Big 10 next year pouring in 37 points, including nine straight in the fourth quarter to lead Christopher to a 49-44 win over Du Quoin in opening night action of the Lady Indian Tip-Off Tournment.

After the Lady Indians tied the game at 38-38 early in the fourth on Kallie Oestreicher’s fourth three-pointer of the game, Hargrove went on her personal 9-0 run.

Also in Pool A in Anders Gym, Cairo built a double digit third quarter lead then held off Woodlawn 63-58. Freshman Shanti Taylor led the Lady Pilots with 19 points with Aaliyah Wilkerson added 15. Woodlawn’s Jase Burkitt led all scorers with 22, surpassing 1000 career points in the process.

Salem beat Sesser-Valier/Waltonville 44-30 and Pinckneyville took care of Murphysboro 77-14 in the Pool B games played in the Auxillary Gym.

Pool play will continue Wednesday and Friday nights with trophy games set for Saturday afternoon.
