Massac Country rolls past Murphysboro for regional title

METROPOLIS — The host Lady Patriots got on a roll late in the first game and never looked back, rolling to a 25-18, 25-11 win over Murphysboro to capture the Massac County 2A Volleyball Regional championship.

Leading 20-18 in the opening game, the Lady Patriots scored the five points to take game one, then found an even higher gear in game two. The Red Devils jumped out to a 5-2 lead, but Massac County then scored 10 straight and 13 of the next 14 points to seize control and never relented.

The Lady Patriots improve to 31-6 and will advance to the Pinckneyville Sectional where they will face Carmi-White County in the second semifinal Monday night at 7:00. Fairfield will face Pinckneyville in the opener at 6:00.

The Lady Red Devils finish their season 22-11.
