Carterville downs Massac County

CARTERVILLE — The Carterville Lions built a big lead then held on to beat visiting Massac County 10-5 in an SIRR Ohio battle Friday in Carterville.

Trailing 1-0, the Lions scored six runs in the fourth and added four more in the fifth to build a 10-1 lead. The Patriots tallied two runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh before their rally ran out of steam.

Parker Poole allowed five runs in 6 1/3 innings of work to pick up the win for Carterville. Alex Lyell had three hits while Haiden Lange and Drake Capie drove in three runs apiece to lead the Lions’ offensive attack. Max Elliott had two hits, and Josh Gilbert drove in a pair to pace the Patriots.

Carterville improves to 11-7, 3-3 in the conference. Massac County falls to 12-2, 4-2 in the conference.
