GOREVILLE – Goreville senior Drake Buffington said he’s been struggling recently at the plate. You’d be hard-pressed to convince the ZRC Tornadoes of that after Buffington blasted a pair of three-run homers helping the Blackcats to a 10-0 win in five innings.
The two home runs and six RBIs were just a part of Buffington’s big day, as he was dominant on the mound as well, striking out 10 in a one-hit shutout where he faced the minimum 15 batters.
Each team has one loss in the Black Diamond West race. Goreville is 4-1 while ZRC is 2-1. For the season, the Blackcats are now 12-6, while the Tornadoes fall to 17-3.
The two teams will meet again Thursday in Zeigler.
