CARTERVILLE — Caidence Phillips struck out 10 in five dominant innings helping Carterville improve to 6-2 with a 10-0, five inning win over Johnston City.
Lilli Armes was the lone Lady Indian to reach base against Phillips with a single and a walk. Phillips improves to 5-0, lowering her earned run average to 0.72. The junior has given up three earned runs on 10 hits in 29 innings while striking out 59.
Offensively, Colbie Bennett led the way for Carterville going 3-4 with a double, a triple, and three runs batted in. Audrina Sloan added two hits, an RBI and scored twice, while Phillips, Taryn Ford, Emilyn Ford, and Savannah Gibbs all added RBIs.
Carterville improves to 6-2 on the season, while Johnston City falls to 2-4. The Lady Lions are scheduled to visit Vienna Thursday, while the Lady Indians were scheduled to travel to Herrin Wednesday, but that game has been canceled due to the threat of severe weather.
