Tilghman rallies past Murphysboro in Border War

CARTERVILLE — Paducah Tilghman rallied from a 6-1 deficit to down Murphysboro 9-6 in an opening day matchup played at John A. Logan College in the Illinois vs Kentucky softball Battle of the Border.

Red Devils sophomore Blaire Fox had a three-run double in the first and added an RBI single in the third to help Murphysboro build a five-run lead after three innings.

The Blue Tornado answered with four runs in the fourth, three more in the fifth and another in the sixth to complete the comeback.

Tilghman was led by eighth grader Lilly Coomer who was 3-3 with a pair of doubles and drove in three at the plate and also picked up the win despite giving up two runs in an inning and two-thirds of relief. Mia Bobbitt struck out three over two scoreless and hitless innings of relief to pick up the save.

Later in the day, both teams lost their second games of the day. Murphysboro fell 12-2 to Marshall County while Tilghman was short-gamed by Carterville, losing 10-0 in five innings as Lady Lions pitcher Caidence Phillips tossed a no hitter, while going 4-4 at the plate with a grand slam.
