MARION — The Johnston City Lady Indians could not overcome a five-run first inning by Marshall County eventually falling to the Lady Marshals 6-3 at Mountain Dew Park.

Trailing 5-1, Lilli Armes connected for a massive leadoff home run in the fourth. Peyton Johnson followed with a double. Courtesy runner Adrianna Wilkening scored on a ground out a couple of batters later to pull Johnston City within 5-3.

The Lady Marshals picked up some insurance with a sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the fourth for a 6-3 lead.

Johnston City then put runners on the corners with two outs in the seventh to bring Armes to the plate representing the tying run, but Lilly Hayden got the Lady Indians’ slugger to fly out to right ending the game.

Earlier in the day, Johnston City fell to Livingston Central 5-1 in a game played at John A. Logan College. Marshall County turned around and beat Murphysboro 12-2 to close out the night in Marion.
