CARBONDALE — The Mt. Vernon Rams and Marion Wildcats have become very familiar with each other the past couple weeks, facing each other three times in 17 days. The teams split the first two meetings, with each winning at home. The third battle was for the Carbondale 3A Regional championship.
After two nailbiters that came down to the closing seconds, the Rams made sure that didn’t happen again, using a huge fourth quarter to pull away and cruise to a 65-49 win. Mt. Vernon led 38-35 heading to the fourth then outscored Marion 27-14 for the 16-point win.
Dave Barnes led the Mt. Vernon attack with 14 points. Jake Page added 12 with Lucas Shelby Jr. chipping in 11.
Cam Curry led Marion with 16 as the Wildcats finish the season 22-6.
The Rams improve to 18-10. They will now head to the Marion Sectional to face Triad Tuesday at 7:00.
