TRENTON — The Wesclin 2A Girls Basketball Sectional featured two of the top three teams in the final regular season Associated Press poll–number one Breese Central and number three Nashville.
Both the Cougars and the Hornettes took care of their business in the semifinals, setting up a whale of a sectional championship game, a rematch of last year’s Nashville Sectional championship, which the Hornettes won on their way to a State Runner-Up finish.
Central vs Harrisburg
In the first semifinal, Breese Central blitzed Harrisburg from the start, jumping out to a 10-0 lead and extending that cushion to 18-2 after one quarter. Central led 33-8 at the half and cruised to a 50-23 win.
Taylor Trame led the Cougars’ attack with 18 points. Cece Toennies added 12.
Jamisen Green led Harrisburg with 17 points, as the Lady Bulldogs finished their season 25-7.
Nashville vs Vienna
The Hornettes also jumped out to a quick lead, scoring the first eight points in the second semifinal against Vienna. Nashville led 17-7 after one quarter and then scored the first 10 points of the second quarter on the way to a 37-13 lead at the half.
The Hornettes went on to win the game 61-32 behind 18 points from Emma Behrmann who also played a big part in holding Lady Eagles’ star Ayva Rush to no field goals and seven points. Summer Brinkmann added 16 for Nashville with her twin sister Samantha chipping in 11.
Suhmer Daubert hit four 3-pointers to lead Vienna with 14 points. The Lady Eagles finish a record-setting season at 29-3.
Central and Nashville will square off the sectional championship game Thursday night at 6:30 with the winner advancing to the Vandalia Supersectional.
