O’FALLON — The Harrisburg Bulldogs will carry a slim, 48-pin lead into the final round of the Boys State Bowling Tournament at St. Clair Bowl in O’Fallon after knocking down 6491 pins on day one.
The Bulldogs know all too well the job is not done. Last year, Harrisburg held a 151-pin lead after day one, only to watch the Salem Wildcats come storming back to win their second straight state title.
The Wildcats made the cut and head into the final day this year in eighth place, 469 pins behind Harrisburg.
Machesney Park Harlem is currently in second place with 6443 pins. Dixon is third but is 300 pins back.
Individually, Carterville senior David Lutchka is in second place, just three pins off the pace set by Rolling Meadows sophomore Jayden Ramel, who knocked down 1402 pins. Harrisburg sophomore James Cranmore is sixth while Bulldog teammate Dalton Wheeler is 18th.
Lutchka’s Carterville teammate Evan Flath also made the cut. Flath enters the final day in 32nd place. The top 12 individual finishers will medal.
