SESSER — Waltonville and Sesser-Valier team up on the football field, but that’s not the case in basketball, where the Spartans downed the Red Devils 75-37 in an opening round game at the 43rd S-V Holiday Tournament.
Sophomore Jagger Mayville led the way for the Spartans with a game high 21 points, including eight straight during a second quarter stretch where he was a force at both ends of the floor. Mayville had plenty of help as Kyle Cooper added 17, while Gage Peterson chipped in 15.
Waltonville will face Du Quoin in the semifinals at 7:30 Friday night. Sesser-Valier will meet Marissa/Coulterville in the consolation bracket right before at 6:00.
