Milestone for Miller as Hamilton County sweeps Foxes Invitational

MCLEANSBORO — You could say Hamilton County head coach Doug Miller had a pretty good Saturday. After picking up milestone win number 300 in the morning session, Miller’s Foxes downed Edwards County 47-36 to complete a 5-0 week and a second straight championship sweep of the Foxes Invitational.

Hamilton County led 13-5 after one quarter and extended that lead to as many as 12 in the second quarter, but Edwards County scored the final six points of the half then the first three points in the third quarter to pull within 23-20. The Foxes pushed that lead back to 31-23 by the end of the third then cruised in the fourth for the 11-point win.

Kaleb Carson led the Foxes with 17 points. Kord Lueke added 13. Evan Rhodes led the Lions with 12. Cash Conner tallied 10.

Carson, Lueke, and Ethan Kessler were all named to the All-Tournament team for Hamilton County, while Conner, Cy Nelson, and Owen Grimes made it for the Lions. Also named to the All-Tournament Team were West Frankfort’s Quentin Osburn, Wayne City’s James Walker, NCOE’s Jaxon Simmons, and Gallatin County’s Grant Jackson.

Walker finished as the tournament’s leading scorer with 99 points.
