GOREVILLE — The Benton Rangers and Goreville Blackcats made sure their Saturday head to head matchup would be for the championship at the Goreville Invitational as both teams remained unbeaten through the first three games of the tournament.
The Rangers got 23 points from Docker Tedeschi to hold off Harrisburg 53-45 in the opening game Friday night. Cayden Young led the Bulldogs with 16. Reed Rider added 10.
The host Blackcats jumped out to an 18-0 lead in the nightcap and never looked back, beating Hardin County 72-42. Goreville led 30-11 after one quarter and extended that lead to a 50-18 at the half when Connor Craig beat the buzzer from beyond halfcourt.
Benton will face Goreville in the final game of the tournament Saturday afternoon. The final session kicks off with Harrisburg and Anna-Jonesboro.
