DU QUOIN — The Murphysboro Red Devils got off to a great start then cruised past Cairo 73-42 in their opening game at the Du Quoin Tip-Off Classic.
Murphysboro led 24-7 after one quarter and pushed the lead to 41-16 by halftime.
Cade Brooks led four Red Devils in double figures with 17 points. Amartez Bankhead and Myles Guthman added 13 points apiece with AJ Boese added 10. JaKwon McAllister led the Pilots with 11 points, all coming in the second half.
Both teams are back in action Wednesday night with the Pilots facing the host Indians at 5:00. The Red Devils will face Chester at 6:30, with Sparta and Sesser-Valier closing out session three at 8:00.
Sparta edged Herrin 48-46, and Carmi-White County beat Sesser-Valier 55-43 in the other two games Tuesday night.
