Anna-Jonesboro Girls Cross Country: The Lady Wildcats narrowly missed out on a state championship finishing third at the 1A State Meet. Just 6 points separated the top 3 teams. This is the second straight trophy for A-J and just the 5th for a girls team in the 618 region in the 46 year history of the girls championships.
Kolton Jany, Chester: The senior rushed 21 times for 73 yards and caught 7 passes for a 107 yards with a touchdown in the Yellow Jackets’ 28-7 loss to Maroa-Forsyth in the second round of the 2A playoffs.
Samuel Kollbaum, Nashville: The senior rushed 38 times for 184 yards and 3 touchdowns in the Hornets’ 41-21 win over Greenville in the second round of the 3A playoffs.
Gabe McLain and Cole Buchanan, Benton: The seniors wrapped up their cross country careers with top six finishes at state. McLain finished third with a time of 14:36.66, and Buchanan finished sixth with a time of 15:00.36.
Jaydee Melton, NCOE: The junior had 58 assists and 4 aces in the Fighting Cardinals to wins to capture the Cobden Sectional championship.
Jace Weaver, Johnston City: The junior rushed 14 times for 120 yards and scored 2 touchdowns in the Indians’ 28-13 win over Pana in the 2A Quarterfinals.
