MURPHYSBORO — Unbeaten Breese Central is headed to the 4A quarterfinals after ending Murphysboro’s season, beating the Red Devils 34-7 at Doc Bencini Field.
The Cougars led 14-0 at the half and pushed that lead to 34-0 in the fourth quarter before Tyjaire Kellum’s 80-yard touchdown run late got the Red Devils on the board.
Breese Central has now held eight straight opponents to seven points or less. That Cougars’ defense will face quite a challenge in the quarterfinals when Mt. Zion pays a visit.
Murphysboro finishes 8-3.
