CARBONDALE — The South Seven co-champs put on quite a show for a regional championship.

Carbondale senior goal keeper Koty Miller stopped three of the four shots he faced in penalty kicks helping the Terriers down top-seeded Marion 3-1 in PKs to win the Carbondale 2A Regional.

After a scoreless first half, Marion senior Lucas Aguirre scored early in the second half on a perfect free kick around the Terriers’ defenders and by Miller into the net.

It remained 1-0 Marion until the final 3:30 minutes. Marion keeper Charli Smith made a save off a Carbondale corner kick, but the Terriers ended up with another corner. This time, Jackson Gray’s header off of Joey Magwire-Newcomb’s pass tied the game 1-1 with 3:08 to play.

This one went to overtime, and after two scoreless overtime periods, it was decided by penalty kicks.

The Terriers advance to the Triad 2A Sectional where they will face Althoff Wednesday at 7:00 in the second sectional semifinal. Waterloo will take on host Triad in the opener at 5:00.

The Wildcats see their season end at 13-7.
