WEST FRANKFORT — Nashville junior Brynn Stiegman told herself not to be nervous as she stood over a potential regional-winning putt. Calm and cool, Stiegman buried the 10-footer to edge Trico sophomore Whitney Lovel for medalist honors.

“Yeah, I could tell, that’s going in,” Stiegman said. “I was like, ‘whew’. I felt like I could breathe.”

Stiegman finished with a 74, a shot better than Lovel and three better than Steeleville freshman Lynlee Rubach.

There was far less drama as far as the team standings were concerned, as the Hornettes cruised to a 24-stroke victory with a team score of 341. Red Bud and Trico also will advance as teams to Monday’s Rochester Sectional.
