BENTON — After seeing their game suspended at CZR Friday night due to stormy weather, the Hamilton County Foxes didn’t seem to mind putting in some work on a Saturday, beating the Bearcats 24-6.
The game was moved to the turf on Benton’s Tabor Field due to damage to the football field and facilities at Christopher.
The Foxes led 8-0 when the game was called with 6:22 left in the first half Friday night. After play resumed, CZR scored to cut it to 8-6. The Bearcats’ then blocked a short field goal attempt by the Foxes on the final play of the half.
Hamilton County extended its lead on the opening possession of the third quarter on an 8-yard touchdown run by senior quarterback Andrew Webb. The Foxes added the two-point conversion and led 16-6 after three quarters.
Celso Ramirez added a 7-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter as the Foxes put it away.
Hamilton County (1-2) will host Edwards County next week, while CZR (0-3) will step out of conference play for a Saturday game at Red Hill. The Bearcats were originally scheduled to play Vienna/Goreville, who is not fielding a varsity team this season.
