Here are the nominees for September 2-7:
Zain Al-Jassim, Chester: The senior was 12-18 for 244 yards and 4 touchdowns passing and added a rushing touchdown helping the Yellow Jackets to a 56-6 win over Pinckneyville.
Eli Baker, Salem: The junior scored 11 goals and added 3 assists to help the Wildcats to a 2-1 record for the week. Baker scored 7 goals in a win over Valmeyer.
Miah Gilmore, Murphysboro: The senior won the Murphysboro Girls Cross Country Invitational by 1:10, finishing with a time of 18:23.7.
Gabe McLain, Benton: The senior won the Murphysboro Boys Cross Country Invitational by :28 with a time of 15:14, helping the Rangers win the team title as well.
Braxton Miller, Hamilton Co.: The junior rushed 9 times for 215 yards and 2 touchdowns, had 2 receptions for 68 yards and a touchdown, and also returned a kickoff 76 yards for a touchdown in the Foxes’ 52-29 loss to Carmi-White County.
Noah Pollard, Carmi-White Co.: The senior rushed 32 times for 298 yards and 4 touchdowns and also returned a kickoff 85 yards for another touchdown in the Bulldogs’ 52-29 win over Hamilton County.
Grace Roper, Marion: The senior set a school record with a 7-under 64 to win the Marion Invitational at Kokopelli. The next day, she earned medalist honors with a 37 to help the Lady Wildcats win the Anna-Jonesboro Invitational.
Chloe Sims, Du Quoin: The senior was named to the All-Tournament Team after the Lady Indians went 4-0 to win the Southern Illinois Preview Tournament at Carbondale. Sims recorded 52 kills, 5 blocks, 35 digs, and 17 service points as Du Quoin went 4-1 for the week.
River Stilley, Benton: The senior tied a school record score for 9 holes with a 30 to win medalist honors in a meet with Massac County, Carterville and Carbondale. Stilley then won the Viking Invitational in Danville, firing a 70 helping the Rangers to a second place finish.
Landon Sveda, CZR: The junior was 25-43 for 412 yards and 2 touchdowns passing and added 8 rushes for 50 yards and another touchdown in the Bearcats’ 27-24 loss at Flora.
