Murphysboro routs Anna-Jonesboro

MURPHYSBORO — The Murphysboro Red Devils bounced back in a big way from last week’s season-opening loss to Carbondale with a 59-7 win over Anna-Jonesboro.

Gibson Fager threw three touchdown passes, including two to Ari Granados, and Tyjaire Kellum scored a pair of touchdowns to lead the Red Devils’ attack.

The Wildcats were back on the field after assistant coach Nick Dillon was killed in a car crash Wednesday in Union County. Dillon was a 1995 A-J graduate who played for Brett Detering and the Wildcats. He had helped out in recent years with the junior program, before joining Coach Jamie Yates’ staff with the high school program this year.

Murphysboro (1-1) will hit the road next week for a big test at 2-0 Benton. Anna-Jonesboro (0-2) will be back on the road to visit Massac County.
