CARBONDALE — Senior Demarzion “Mozzy” Graham’s third touchdown of the game with 38 seconds left was the game winner, helping Carbondale rally from a 17-point halftime deficit to down Murphysboro 36-33 in the annual Jackson County Bragging Rights game.
There was still plenty of nail-biting time, as Murphysboro made it near midfield, and after a pass interference call as the clock turned to zeroes, the Red Devils had an untimed down to try a Hail Mary pass to win the game, but it was knocked away.
Carbondale’s win snaps Murphysboro’s three-game winning streak in the series.
The Terriers will open South Seven play next week at Mt. Vernon, while the Red Devils will host Anna-Jonesboro.
