WHITTINGTON — The Benton Rangers came charging out of the gates, posting a 2-under 286 for a 17-stroke win in the season-opening Rend Lake Boys Golf Invitational.
Senior River Stilley earned medalist honors with a bogey-free round of 6-under 66. Kash Cantrell and Lincoln Thomas joined Stilley in the top four. Cantrell finished second with a 2-under 70, and Thomas fourth with an even par 72.
Twin freshmen brothers Chance and Trey Norman, sons of Ranger head coach Reggie Norman, had impressive high school debuts. Chance finished tied for 15th with a 78 while Trey tied for 20th with an 80.
Effingham St. Anthony was second as a team with a 303 score, a shot better than Breese Mater Dei. Massac County (324) and Teutopolis (328) rounded out the top five teams.
