Marion falls to Monterrey, Mexico in Colt World Series opener

MARION — The 70th Colt World Series got underway with four games along with the opening ceremonies Friday at Mountain Dew Park in Marion. The 10-team field features six teams from United States and four international teams.

Monterrey, Mexico scored five first inning runs against the host Marion team and made it stand, winning 5-2 in the final game of the opening day.

Marion fell into the losers bracket, but came back Saturday morning and defeated Palmview (Texas) 5-3. Marion will next play at 11:00 Sunday morning.

The defending champions, Southern Illinois, will see their first action of the tournament Saturday night at 8:00 against Masaya (Nicaragua).
