PEORIA – Illini Bluffs sophomore Cora Ellison pitched and hit the Tigers past Trico and into the 1A Softball State Championship game.
Ellison tossed a five-hit shutout and also provided the game’s first run with a leadoff home run in the second inning. The Tigers added two more in the fourth for the final runs of the game.
Kaylyn Bowerman and Hayleigh Franklin combined for four of Trico’s five hits on the day. The Pioneers put five runners in scoring position but could not get any of the runners to the plate.
Trico falls to 27-6 and will play Villa Grove at 9:00 Saturday morning for third place.
