WATERLOO – The Marion Lady Wildcats saw their season come to end at the hands of the host Bulldogs in the Waterloo 3A Sectional semifinals, falling 8-3.
Waterloo used single runs in the first three innings to build a 3-0 lead, but Alana Bryant got Marion right back in it with a two-run home run in the bottom of the third.
After Waterloo added a run on a two-out error in the fifth, Bryant’s two-out RBI single pulled the Lady Wildcats back within a run at 4-3.
The Bulldogs put it away with four runs in the sixth, and that was more than enough cushion for Mia Miller, who struck out 12 on the day, while allowing only five hits. Bryant had two of those and drove in all three Marion runs.
The Bulldogs advance to face Freeburg Friday in the sectional final. Freeburg beat Effingham 4-2 in the first semifinal.
Marion finishes the season 30-7.
