Congratulations to Pope County’s Ahry Comer and Nashville’s Makayla Gajewski, our Orthopaedic Center of Southern Illinois in Mt. Vernon Prime Time Performers for May 13-18.

Pope County senior Ahry Comer takes her place atop the medal stand after winning the 1A 400 meters at the Girls State Track and Field Championships in Charleston

Pope County senior Ahry Comer wrapped up her stellar high school career by winning the 1A 400 meters in a time of 55.19, which was just one-hundredth of a second off a state record. Earlier in the day, Comer finished second in the 800 meters. The LSU signee finished with 11 state medals–three in cross country and eight in track and field, including four state championships.

 

Nashville freshman Makayla Gajewski takes her place atop the medal stand after winning the 1A Shot Put at the IHSA GIrls Track and Field Championships in Charleston.

Nashville freshman Makayla Gajewski won the 1A Shot Put with a throw of 39′ 8.75″. Gajewski is the school’s first individual state track and field champion.
