Marion blanks Mt. Vernon to win regional championship

CARBONDALE – Marion sophomore Alana Bryant tossed six shutout innings in the circle in the and was on base four time scoring twice, helping the Lady Wildcats take care of South Seven foe Mt. Vernon 10-0 in six innings in the Carbondale 3A Regional championship game.

Lana Cranick had three of Marion’s 10 hits on the day, driving in a pair out of the ninth spot in the batting order. Kaitlyn Reuss added a pair of hits including a three-double to highlight a seven-run sixth inning to end the game.

Marion improves to 30-6 and will advance to the Waterloo 3A Sectional, where the Lady Wildcats will meet the host Bulldogs in the second semifinal at 5:00 Tuesday. Effingham will face Freeburg in the first semifinal at 3:00.

Mt. Vernon finishes its season 15-19.
