GOREVILLE — Black Diamond West foes Trico and Goreville will meet for the Goreville 1A Sectional championship following a pair of lopsided semifinal victories.
In the opener, Josie Wettig struck out 15 and Mia Jimenez went 5-5 with four doubles and drove in five to help Trico take care of Century 12-3.
Taylor Cottom hit a mammoth two-run home run in the third inning, helping the Pioneers build a 7-0 lead.
Allison Burd’s three-run homer in the fifth inning pulled the Lady Centurions within 7-3, but that’s all the offense Century could muster against Wettig.
Trico added a run in the sixth and four more in the seventh for the final margin of victory.
In the nightcap, the host Lady Blackcats scored five runs in the first and never looked back, beating Elverado 15-0 in four innings.
Goreville added two runs in the second and exploded for eight more in the third, leading to the short-game victory.
In the circle, Lady Blackcats senior Abby Compton did not allow a hit in those four innings, while at the plate, Compton homered, doubled, and drove in a pair.
Trico and Goreville will square off Friday at 4:30 for a spot in the Johnston City 1A Supersectional.
