Area bowlers help win National Youth Team Bowling Championship

Three junior standout bowlers from the region had quite the experience last weekend in Smyrna, Tennessee.

Carterville’s Evan Flath, Salem’s Silas Moats, and O’Fallon’s Connor Lunning, who are all 17-years old, joined forces with Riley Speer from Indianapolis to win the U20 National Team Bowling championship.

Out of 13 teams competing, The “Brothers in Paris” made the cut and were seeded fourth in the semifinals after qualifying. They rallied from down 2-1 in the best of five semifinal series to knock off the top seed and advance to the championship. They then rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat the third seed 3-2 in the finals.

Flath, Moats, and Lunning all competed at the IHSA State Bowling finals back in January. Moats finished 34th individually helping Salem win the state championship. Lunning finished 30th as O’Fallon finished sixth as a team, and Flath finished 38th as Carterville finished 12th as a team.
