MARION — Chase Freeman’s two-run, fourth inning single broke a 5-5 tie helping the ZRC Tornadoes rally from an early 4-1 deficit to beat Trico 9-8 for their 12th straight win.
The Tornadoes added two more runs for a 9-5 lead then had to hold on in the seventh. Trico scored a run on a throwing error, then with two outs, Kadyn Starkey hit line drive down the right field line that got down and went all the way to the corner in spacious Mountain Dew Park. Starkey turned it into a two-run, inside-the-park home run to pull the Pioneers within 9-8. Chase Cole ended the drama for ZRC, striking out Ethan Kranawetter to end the game.
The Tornadoes improve to 13-1 and are now 4-0 in the Black Diamond West. Trico falls to 5-9, 0-2 in the conference.
