METROPOLIS — Our John A. Logan College Senior Spotlight is shining on Massac County’s Isaac Hosman.

Massac County senior Isaac Hosman (#24) brings the ball up against Vienna.

The 2023-24 senior class will go down as one of the most productive classes in recent memory with many school records being set along the way. This, in some cases, was despite pandemic-shortened freshman seasons.

Massac County’s Isaac Hosman is a great example. Hosman set the school’s all-time record for scoring and assists, despite the Patriots playing only 16 games his freshman season.

This past season Hosman handed out 223 assists, breaking the previous single season record of 204 held by his brother, Andrew.

“He’s had great examples in his big brothers Zach and Andrew,” Patriots’ head coach and dad Joe Hosman said. “They’ve been excited for him, and that’s meant a lot to Isaac.”

Hosman finished his career with 1839 points and 699 assists. The 699 assists ranks 8th on the IHSA’s all-time career assists list, putting Hosman ahead of some really impressive names such as Fred VanVleet (10th), Kevin Stallings (12th), Bryan Mullins (18th), and Jalen Brunson (19th).

During Hosman’s four years, the Patriots won 82 of 113 games, including three regional titles. This year, Massac County finished 22-10, winning a regional title before falling to Breese Central in the sectional semifinals.

“It’s been fun getting to coach him,” Joe Hosman said. “You have to leave the dad/son part out of it. He’s everything you’d ever want in a point guard–more about winning than scoring.”

Isaac did both and piled up numerous individual awards along the way. This past season he was named IBCA All-State 3rd Team, Media All-State Honorable Mention, All-South, and SIRR All-Conference. He was all-conference all four years.

Hosman plans to sign with Shawnee College in the near future.
