WOODLAWN — Our John A. Logan College Senior Spotlight is shining on Woodlawn’s Jase Burkett, who just wrapped up a fantastic girls basketball career.
Burkett was recently named Midland Trail Conference MVP for third straight year. For the season, Burkett averaged 18.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.8 steals per game. Burkett scored 20 or more 17 times, including a season high 26 on three different occasions. She finished her career with 1495 points, including only 14 games in her pandemic-shortened freshman season.
“Her success comes from her work ethic and good teammates,” said Woodlawn head coach Matt Patterson. “She is a gym rat, constantly getting extra shots in and working on her game.”
While Burkett piled up a bunch of stats helping the Lady Cardinals win 73 games in her four seasons, Patterson says her impact will be felt long after she graduates.
“Her effort has rubbed off on teammates now doing the extra things to get better,” Patterson said.
“She has also been a great role model for our junior high program, as she has worked with them in the summer as well.”
Patterson says Burkett is taking college visits and should have a decision soon.
