CARTERVILLE — Ayva Rush scored 20 points and Jenna Waters added 19 off the bench to help lead Vienna to a 57-30 dismantling of Carterville to win the Carterville 2A Regional championship.

The Lady Eagles’ defense not only harassed the Lady Lions into 22 turnovers, but it held Carterville’s all-time leading scorer Amayah Doyle to only six points on the night.

Carterville led 7-6 after one, but Vienna started to take control in the second quarter, building a 23-15 lead by halftime. The second half was all Lady Eagles as they outscored the Lady Lions 34-15, including 21-5 in the fourth quarter.

Vienna improves to 26-7 and advances to the Nashville Sectional, where the Lady Eagles will face Breese Central at 7:30 Tuesday in the second semifinal. Massac County will take on either Nashville or Breese Mater Dei in the first semifinal.

Carterville finishes the season 25-7.
