WEST FRANKFORT — It will be an all-SIRR Ohio final at the West Frankfort 2A Girls Basketball Regional as top-seeded Massac County and Harrisburg picked up semifinal wins.
The Lady Patriots shook off a slow start to take care of Johnston City 60-42. Massac County senior Brooklyn Burnett led all scorers with 27 points. Adalyn Gower added 13 for the Lady Patriots.
Kenzie Mowery and Carsyn Clark scored 10 points apiece to lead the Lady Indians.
In the second semifinal, Kinzleigh Smothers hit two free throws with 5.2 seconds to play to lift Harrisburg to a 47-45 win over Benton.
The Lady Bulldogs opened by scoring the game’s first 11 points. The Rangerettes answered with an 11-0 run to tie the game, and it would be tightly contested the rest of the way.
Harrisburg led 45-42 until Malia Webb buried a three-pointer to tie the game. Harrisburg pushed the ball up the floor with Smothers drawing a foul on a drive to the basket, setting up the game winning free throws.
Jamisen Green led Harrisburg with 17 points. Benton’s Josie Mitchell led all scorers with 21.
Massac County will face Harrisburg Thursday night at 6:30 for the regional championship. The winner will advance to next week’s Nashville Sectional.
