Vienna builds resume with impressive win over Murphysboro

BENTON — With seeding for the boys postseason ahead in the upcoming week, the Vienna Eagles spiffied up their resume with a 64-48 win over Murphysboro in the opening game of the Rich Herrin Classic at Benton.

The Eagles jumped out to a 13-1 lead and never looked back. Vienna led 17-7 after one quarter and took a 40-23 lead into locker room at halftime. Murphysboro got as close as 10 a couple of times in the second half, but the Eagles eventually won by 16.

Vienna senior Owen Treat led all scorers with 20. Fellow senior Hunter Webb added 14 for the Eagles, who improve to 22-6 on the season.

With the loss, Murphysboro falls to 17-10. Kaden Shields led the Red Devils with 15.
