DU QUOIN — Our John A. Logan College Senior Spotlight is shining on Du Quoin’s Kallie Oestreicher, who is leaving her name all over the school’s girls basketball record book.
With 20 points in Tuesday night’s 61-42 win over Anna-Jonesboro, Oestreicher broke her own school record for points in a season. She currently sits at 498 points for the season and 1139 for her career.
Oestreicher’s coaches say their senior standout is a product of hard work. Kallie earned some varsity minutes during her Covid-shortened freshman year. She only scored two points that season, but head coach Shawn File saw something.
“We knew that she was going to have a special career,” File said. “Kallie has a strong work ethic and always stayed late to work on her shot.”
That work paid off. As a sophomore, Oestreicher was the first player off the bench for a team that finished 20-9. Then as a junior, she not only moved into the starting lineup, but became a major force, setting the school record for points in a season (the first time) and earning numerous accolades including all-conference in the SIRR Mississippi and all-South.
During her senior season, Oestreicher has surpassed 1000 career points, has broken her own single season scoring record, and earlier this month signed with Illinois College to continue her academic and basketball careers.
“Kallie is a very driven young lady,” File said. “She decided early on that she wanted to play basketball at the next level, and she is going to do exactly that.”
File says Oestreicher is also a great student. She will graduate this spring not only from Du Quoin High School but also with an associate’s degree from John A. Logan College.
