Harrisburg leads after opening day at boys State Bowling Tournament–Salem, Carterville, O’Fallon, and Herrin make the cut

O’FALLON — The Harrisburg Bulldogs will take a 151-pin lead into the final day of the Boys State Bowling Tournament being held at the St. Clair Bowl in O’Fallon.

Led by sophomore Caleb Gore (1375 pins) who is sixth individually and Jonathon Carlton (1360 pins) who is eighth individually, the Bulldogs tallied 6461 pins on the day. Glenbrook North is second with defending state champion Salem, Joliet West, and Dixon rounding out the top five.

O’Fallon, Carterville, and Herrin also made the 12-team cut after day one. Mt. Vernon did not make the cut, finishing 20th.

O’Fallon’s Connor Lunning (1321 pins) is 12th individually. Carterville’s Evan Flath (1316 pins) is currently in 13th with Herrin’s Chase Lannom (1299 pins) in 18th.

Carterville junior David Lutchka is just outside the top 20 in 24th place individually. Lutchka posted one of the two perfect 300 games rolled on the day. Rockton Hononegah’s Charlie Hunt had the other.

In addition to the 12 teams, 30 individuals not on those 12 teams advance to Saturday’s finals. That group includes Mt. Vernon’s Travin Elliott who is 55th with 1220 pins and Highland’s Jaden Offerman who is 59th with 1208 pins. Webber’s Raymond Andrews missed the cut by 10 pins.

The first session of day two will start at 9:00 Saturday morning, with the final session slated to begin at 1:00. Trophies will be awarded to the top three teams and medals given to the top 12 individuals.
