New Athens, Christopher open with wins at Turkey Tournament

CHRISTOPHER — New Athens and the host Bearcats picked up wins on the opening night of the 49th Christopher Turkey Tournament.

Isaiah Linkter scored 22, while Ethan Range added 14 and Jack Alfeldt 12 as the Yellow Jackets beat Thompsonville 53-38 in the opener. New Athens led 21-17 at the half and extended that lead to 39-27 after three before winning by 15.

In the nightcap, Scout Hudgens led three Bearcats in double figures with 23 as Christopher beat Patoka/Odin 71-60. Chase Cole and Carson Hobbs added 16 points apiece for Christopher. That helped offset a monster night from Patoka/Odin’s Owen Landreth who led all scorers with 34.

New Athens will face Christopher Wednesday night at 7:30 in the first semifinal. Thompsonville will take on Patoka/Odin in the consolation bracket in the opener Wednesday at 6:00.
