DU QUOIN — The Cairo Lady Pilots and the Salem Lady Wildcats advanced to the championship game of the Du Quoin Lady Indian Tip-Off Tournament by clinching their pools with wins Friday night.
The Lady Pilots withstood 37 points from Nebraska signee Amiah Hargrove to down Christopher 65-49. Cairo trailed 19-18 at the half, but outscored Christopher 28-20 in the third quarter, then opened the fourth quarter with an 8-0 run building a 54-39 lead.
Meanwhile, the Lady Wildcats used a 7-0 fourth quarter run to take the lead and then hit their free throws down the stretch to beat Pinckneyville 54-45.
Both Cairo and Salem finished 3-0 in pool play. Those two teams will face off for the championship at 4:30 Saturday in Anders Gym. Christopher will face Pinckneyville for third place. The day starts with the host Lady Indians meeting Murphysboro in the seventh place game at 12:00 followed by Woodlawn and Sesser-Valier/Waltonville in the fifth place game.
