SESSER — Senior Dez Malone rushed for 225 yards and scored two touchdowns to help Sesser-Valier/Waltonville overcome a first half deficit and beat Carrollton 34-8 in a 1A first round playoff game.
Malone scored on TD runs of 38 and 75 yards to lead the Red Devils’ offense, but it was a pair of plays by the SVW defense that helped turn the tide.
The Red Devils trailed 8-6 at the half, but a pair of goal line stands by the defense kept the deficit from growing any further.
With the win, SVW improves to 10-0. The Red Devils will be at home next week for round two, hosting the 7 seed in the south bracket, Salt Fork. Kickoff has been set for 2:00 next Saturday.
