CARTERVILLE — After a scoreless first quarter, the Harrisburg Bulldogs scored three touchdowns in a 3:50 span to open the second quarter and never looked back, winning 23-12.
Owen Rann connected with Tevin Godsey for a 60-yard touchdown pass on the first play of the second quarter. On the Lions’ ensuing drive, Braden Burtis intercepted Brandon Skelcher and returned it for touchdown. Karmello Downey added a short TD run following a bad snap on a punt for a 21-0 Harrisburg lead.
The Bulldogs added a safety later in the second quarter following another bad snap on a punt by Carterville.
The Lions scored a touchdown in each of the third and fourth quarters and had several other second half opportunities, but the Bulldogs’ defense was up to the challenge.
Harrisburg improves to 7-3 and will host Peoria Notre Dame next Saturday at 5:00. Carterville finishes its season 7-3.
