CARBONDALE — The Carbondale Terriers withstood tremendous individual performances from Centralia’s Daryle Jones and Xavier Koch to beat the Orphans 49-39 and remain unbeaten in South Seven play.
Jones threw for 235 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 167 yards plus another score, while Koch caught 10 passes for 213 yards and scored four times, but it wasn’t enough for the Orphans.
Brock Bowlby threw three touchdowns for the Terriers, who also blocked a punt for a touchdown in the first half.
Both teams were coming off bye weeks due to forfeits as a result of penalties handed down to Cahokia and Granite City for a fracas during their game two weeks prior.
