MARION — Sophomore quarterback Callahan Roper threw three touchdowns, and the defense came up with a late stand as Marion held off Mt. Vernon 20-14.
Rams’ senior Navontae Nesbit was pressed into duty as quarterback due to injuries. Nesbit delivered 238 yards rushing on 44 carries and nearly led a potential game-winning drive.
Mt. Vernon made it all the way inside Marion’s 20, but the Wildcats’ defense came up with a stop, and time ran out securing the victory.
